Chinese Community Joins “Summer of a Million Meals” Drive to Support Arizona Families

MESA–Hunger doesn't take a vacation. During the summer months, many families struggle with rising utility bills, childcare expenses, and increased food costs. To help meet this urgent need, United Food Bank, in partnership with12News,is hosting three donation drives as part of its “Summer of a Million Meals” campaign, with events held on May16,July10,and August14.
Each event runs from5:30–7:00a.m.and4:00–7:00p.m.,encouraging community members to donate to help provide meals to those in need. For every$1donated,United Food Bank can distribute five hot meals, with a campaign goal of raising one million meals for Arizona families.
At the second donation event held on July10,Sally Harrison, President and CEO of the Mesa Chamber of Commerce, led her team in person to show their support. Local Chinese business leader, Fanny Tan, CEO of Tan Hua Inc, also mobilized members of the Chinese community to participate, receiving enthusiastic support and donations.

Their presence at the donation site added warmth and generosity to the campaign. Donations were personally received by Sally Harrison and United Food Bank CEO Jason Reed, who expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the Chinese community. The event was also broadcast live by12News,drawing applause and support from attendees and viewers alike.
Since the beginning of the campaign, Fanny Tan has been actively promoting the initiative through various channels, encouraging Chinese American families to contribute. A longtime community advocate, Tan has consistently supported charitable efforts and worked to integrate the Chinese community into broader philanthropic causes.
“No matter the amount, every donation is filled with love,” Fanny Tan said.
“I hope more Chinese friends will reach out and contribute to the community.”
