CGCC FLL Qualifier Tournament Celebrates STEM Success
Chandler, AZ—The CGCC FLL Qualifier Tournament at Chandler-Gilbert Community College's Pecos Campus was a vibrant celebration of STEM learning, creativity, and teamwork. It occurred on December 14, 2024, and attracted 14 competing teams and over 200 attendees, including students, mentors, parents, and volunteers.
The opening ceremony was a highlight, with CGCC President Dr. Wurster and Chandler City Vice Mayor O.D Harris delivering inspiring speeches to kick off the day. Both leaders praised the event's role in fostering innovation and teamwork among young minds while encouraging participants to pursue their passion for STEM fields.
The tournament, part of the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) robotics season, showcased young participants' remarkable skills and dedication as they enthusiastically and precisely tackled this year's challenges. Teams demonstrated their problem-solving abilities, strategic thinking, and collaboration through robot performance and innovation projects.
Tournament Director Chao Ling, a Garmin software engineer and adjunct faculty member at CGCC, led the event's success. For many years, he has dedicated his spare time to FIRST Robotics, First Tech Challenge, and First Lego League, serving as a coach, mentor, and volunteer. His efforts have impacted numerous FLL teams in the Chinese community through Hope Chinese School and beyond, fostering STEM education and innovation across Arizona.
The event was made possible through the generous sponsorship and support of CGCC and co-sponsorship from Si Se Puede Foundation (SSPF). A special thanks go to CGCC staff, including IT and room services, who ensured the event ran smoothly. Additionally, the support from volunteers played a crucial role in making the tournament a success.
